Underwater Combat/Mode – comments, concerns?

This thread is regarding underwater combat, which I did not see a specific thread for.

So, what did you guys think of it? We can now jump, but ArenaNet is doing underwater combat a bit different. Did any of you have problems with the z-axis and fighting?

also, I suspect much of Orr will be underwater and it would be interesting to have a completely underwater dungeon, so this is a valid concern. Underwater mode needs to feel fun and not too limited. How will, for example, the Mesmer’s Portals work underwater? why only a trident and spear for every race?

Upgrade Components

So I was doing a little research on upgrade components, and I found out that runes were for armor, sigils for weapons and jewels for acessories. But then I came across something more, from a blog-post here at GW2GURU!

Runes are the upgrade components for armor, but here I found this:

Crests: Ligth Armor
Marks: Medium Armor
Talismans: Heavy Armor
I then looked at the stats of these upgrade components, and they looked the very same!

So I was wondering, what is the difference between runes and crests/marks/talismans??

New here and in Guild Wars

Hello, i just joined this site and i bought Guild Wars 2.

Ive played multitudes of MMOs and i got tired of them being just MMOs.

One thing ive loved about WoW was the Death Knight starting quest chain, it was just epic and amazing, and the fact that such Dynamic Events similar to the WoW DK starting quest chain exist through the whole game made me super excited.

I was also excited that there will be an actual storyline to the Character you create instead of you just being “Just another random guy with 0 storyline”.

One of the other things that ive loved in WoW was the starting quest chain of the Undead involving Sylvanas and the War, i really hope that this game feels as epic and as astounding as that quest chain was, i was really bored with WoW by then but once i expirienced the starting quest chain i got very attached to my character and i leveled her to the maximum level, which is extremely rare for me to do.

I have read a lot of things about Guild Wars 2 and im loving each and every thing so far, i dont know where to begin to express how much i think ill be loving this game during the next Beta Weekend and when the game comes out, it just seems so epic from all the things ive read and saw about it in videos and in sites like this one.

I joined this site because i wanted to join a Guild Wars 2 community.

On to the topic of the Beta Weekends, i kinda expected them to be each and every weekend, its kinda dissapointing to see that these weekends are once per month only, but its still better than nothing.

Now to a question, does your profession also affect the personality of your character? For example, can you be a Necromancer but still be Good? If yes im planning to be a Necromancer when the next Beta Weekend comes out and when the game comes out, ive loved the idea of summoning Skeleton Minions or just Undead Minions.

I have high expectations from Guild Wars 2, and i hope that im welcome in this forum.

What race are you choosing and why?

Hi all!

Let me start off:

Race(s): Sylvari

Reason(s): I like the idea of the different times that they are awakened (dawn, dusk, day and night). Their starting area looks beautiful too. It fits the Necromancer profession perfectly for me. I also like the ones with the white, luminous glowing hair and dark armour. Also, if I were a race, Sylvari would suit me best: I am quite curious and I am also agnostic.

Now you guys go!

Please try to fill it in like this:

Race(s): Human, Charr, Asuran

Reason:

  • Human, because they are, aesthetically, the most pleasing to look at. Their textures are extremely well done, their armor fits well without any clipping ( that was exceedingly noticeable ), and their armor looks the best, to me.
  • Charr, because they have the most amazing history and lore in Guild Wars 2 – in my opinion. If you played Guild Wars 1 from Prophecies, you knew them as this dark, invasive force that was attempting to wipe you out. They caused The Searing. They were the bad guys. Gwen also hated them. But later, in EoTN, you also come to realize…they’re not mindless savages bent on wanton destruction. There is a flip side to them. Their form of command, way of life, honor, yet ferocity. I like it all.
  • Asuran, because………………….Felicia Day voices Zojja. That is all.

I will not be playing Norn. At all. Ever. No way.

Sylvari, I might try, but from what I’ve seen in game, I don’t like their models.

P.S. Mods, a poll would be appreciated.

Buffs and debuffs are too short.

Is it just me, or do others feel that buffs and debuffs are too short? I have 1 second stuns, 3 second dazes, 20 second mights, etc.

The debuffs come and go without enough time to really do anything about them (at least without a much better UI) so it feels like you just have to deal with them. The buffs are so short that you essentially constantly reapply them, which I guess is part of the balance, but… there’s really no tactic or strategy to it at that point.

Looking for some redeeming value in boons and conditions and their length… help me out.

sPvP Map Screenshots

During the stress test I forgot to take some screenshots of the top down maps in sPvP. I was wondering if anyone took any screenshots of the maps and if they would be willing to share.

I could only find really small 300×300 versions via google, and I really want to get started on tactics before the game comes out which means I need some decent sized screenshots.

If anyone has a clean, larger version of both maps that they would be willing to share, it would be very appreciated.

Common ANet. One weekend a month? Really?

Pretty disappointing.

A week on a week off, I could fathom. One weekend a month, with hopes you are actually around to play that particular weekend… gees.

The point the game is at, there isn’t much reason to keep delaying for so long imo – or at least have a steady schedule of planned weekends so we can plan for such things.

I personally don’t mind so much. But a lot of the purchasers some of us got OTHERS to buy into are getting a little pissed off, which is in turn pissing me off.

Let’s ramp up the amount of beta weekends please. Why the hell not.
